UC Irvine Investigators: We offer three payment options.
- Hourly Rate Model
- Hourly Rate: $115 per hour
- This hourly rate is only available to UC Irvine affiliates paying via departmental recharge.
- Rates are valid October 1st – September 30th and are subject to change on an annual basis.
- Grant Submission Support Model
- Support is free when the BERD/CSC statistician is included on the grant at a minimum of 5% effort.
- The goal for providing support at no cost is to cultivate a collaborative environment that will lead to successful grant applications.
- Clients must submit a copy of their budget page that shows inclusion of BERD/CSC resources before final deliverables will be shared.
- A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) is required for this payment model.
- Subscription Model
- Departments or investigators who require statistical support on a variety of projects may “subscribe” to a portion of a CSC staff member’s time.
- Those requesting this model must agree to fund a minimum of 10% effort for at least 6 months.
- A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) is required for this payment model.
External Investigators – Non-Profit Organizations: We offer two payment options.
- Hourly Rate Model
- Non-Profit Rate: $152 per hour
- Rates are valid October 1st – September 30th and are subject to change on an annual basis.
- Grant Submission Support Model (Non-Profit Organizations Only)
- Support is free when the BERD/CSC statistician is included on the grant at a minimum of 5% effort.
- A subaward is required for clients seeking this payment model.
External Investigators – For-Profit Organizations: We offer one payment option.

- For-Profit Rate: $178 per hour
- Rates are valid October 1st – September 30th and are subject to change on an annual basis.
Sales and Services Agreements
The University of California requires that all external clients, both non-profit and for-profit, enter into a UC Sales and Services Agreement (SSA) before any project work may begin. The SSA is facilitated by the Center’s Business Manager, in conjunction with UCI’s contracts department. For more information, contact Margaret Erel (merel@uci.edu).
Billing Administration
- Hourly Rate Model: Clients are billed monthly on an ongoing basis. Payment is expected promptly upon receipt of invoice, regardless of the completion of specific deliverables.
- Grant Support Model: Clients must submit a copy of their budget page that shows inclusion of BERD/CSC resources before final deliverables will be shared.
- Subscription Model: Clients agree to fund a portion of staff salary and benefits for a defined period of time.
Billable Hour
A billable hour refers to time worked on a project that will be charged to a client. The statistician’s work often entails a mix of reviewing research for a basic understanding of the science or technology, determining the appropriate methodology, analyzing the data, reporting results to the client, and adjusting methods as necessary. Time spent on administrative tasks such as scheduling (and rescheduling) meetings, writing reports, and sending emails is all billable time.
An hour refers to one 60-minute period. Clients are billed the hourly rate in quarterly increments (15, 30, 45, or 60 minutes).
Free Hour
All clients receive the first hour of consultation free for new projects. This time is not billed to the client.
